Hattie & Dirk's Great Garden Surprise

Hattie & Dirk’s Great Garden Surprise is inspired by one of the many childhood adventures I shared with my younger brother. It’s a chapter book for readers aged 8 to 10 (or read it aloud to children ages 5+), and a vehicle for families, teachers and librarians to launch valuable discussions with children.  

Like the first book in the Adventures of Hattie Mae Bramble series, Hattie and Dirk’s Great Garden Surprise is silly, wholesome and showcases 

a simpler life on the farm. 

The Tale. Hattie & Dirk tend the family garden and dream of jack-'o-lanterns. But when they encounter a greedy garden shop owner and a friend in need, they find inspiration for their own enterprise. The duo set out to grow and sell low-cost pumpkins to give friends like Robbie a chance to carve their own 

jack-o'-lantern come fall. At first, their goal seems realistic. But naysayers and a surprising force of nature combine to threaten their budding crop. 

As the siblings face doubt and destruction, they work to stay positive until a true surprise allows them to deliver on their promise.
